Blueline’s Deep Dive with Vincennes University

At Blueline, we view our clients as the experts—it's our mission to translate their expertise into forms that resonate with their audiences. This approach was at the heart of our collaboration with Vincennes University on the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Series, a project that not only showcased our ability to simplify complex information but also tested our endurance across an ambitious 83-video series. Over the course of 11 months and 21 shoot days, working alongside 22 expert instructors, we created a resource designed to supplement classroom instruction and provide extensive exposure to Vincennes University's technical programs and instructor expertise.

In partnership with Vincennes University, and fueled by the Governor's Emergency Educational Relief (GEER) grant, this comprehensive video series features a vast collection of instructional videos that demonstrate VU’s state-of-the-art labs and high-quality educational offerings. Our team engaged deeply with subjects ranging from surgical tech to agribusiness, from surveying to robotics, and from piloting a plane to maintaining one, ensuring that each video not only supports educational goals but also brings real-world applications to life for both students and educators.

Our Approach

Our engagement began with producing “vertical slice” videos to establish a consistent look and feel for the series. Working with pilots at VU's facility at the Indianapolis International Airport, we created these videos to include the type of information delivery, practical demonstrations, callout graphics, and full-screen custom animation that we expected might be necessary throughout the series. Once these videos were approved, we dove into production for the remaining 81 videos. This vertical slice model proved to be an incredible advantage, as we were able to refine each aspect of our process, from shot-listing to filming to our coordination and review process with VU's team, at a small scale. Despite the massive scale of the project, this early streamlining made the production and editing of 6 dozen videos simpler for our crew than many one-off projects.

Impact and Results

The final collection includes 83 instructional videos, totaling over 5.5 hours of content, all thoughtfully closed-captioned to enhance accessibility. These videos, created with contributions from 22 instructors showcasing a diverse range of expertise, are now available to VU students and the public, significantly enriching the educational landscape and making technical education more approachable and digestible.

In the press release announcing the videos' launch, VU President Dr. Chuck Johnson is quoted saying: "Vincennes University has some of the most advanced technical programs and top instructors in the country. These videos provide an opportunity for VU students, including our thousands of high school dual credit students across the state, to learn from VU faculty and experience our on-campus programs."
